Beyond profit mentality

Corporate for-profit mentality is destructive for social media platforms, because it fosters a lack of transparency, power abuse, unethical behaviors, and the systemic malpractices we are all too familiar with by now

Facts & Questions

ideas and information about the project

The corporate structures that have controlled social platforms from their inception are inherently prone to the malpractices and destructive behaviors that at this point we all already know— not due to mere intent or evil will, but because they have structural incentives by design to create these negative outcomes, this stems from a systematic lack of transparency, power abuse, and, above all, the relentless pursuit of profit over everything else

First, the idea behind this social network is to be conscious about the problems of the traditional corporate structure, and then in that sense, organize the platform organizational structure in a very different way— based on the principles of cooperativism, digital participation, not-for-profit, community-run management, glocality, transparency, open source, sustainability, and an always aware attitude related to marco-contextual framing around history and social sciences

In the past, such a project would have been nearly impossible, but now the landscape has shifted due to several key factors: (1) public awareness of the harm corporate structures have caused to social media; (2) drastically reduced technological barriers, thanks to open-source innovations and positive developments; (3) advancements in social and organizational sciences, offering viable alternatives to traditional corporate governance and resource allocation models; and (4) a rapidly changing geopolitical and cultural landscape, creating opportunities for alternatives ideas to emerge

By now, the project is the product of an open network of people and organizations, from different countries and diverse expertise that are worried about the present situation of social platforms, and want to contribute and collaborate around the ideas and areas related to building this alternative platform for the public discourse

The plan is to soon, after basic things like the governance model is structured and a functional beta version at the software level is done -which are almost done-, to launch crowdfunding campaign and seek for initial public funding, in order to get the first financial fuel to put the platform online
